The Best Places to Find Love

“Washington is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country.” Horace Greeley (American author); July 13, 1865, New York Tribune.

Horace Greeley might have been right when he referred to “rents...food...dust...and the morals” when he said “Go West, young man, go West”, but if you are a man, when it comes to love, Greeley’s compass was broken.

If you are a male looking to increase your chances of finding love, the direction you need to head is South. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, eight of the places of 100,000 or more with the lowest male-female ratios were in the South. They were Birmingham, Alabama; Mobile, Alabama, Pembroke Pines, Florida; Shreveport, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; New Orleans, Louisiana; Baltimore, Maryland; and Richmond, Virginia.

Now if you are a female looking for love, you should follow Greeley’s advice and “Go West...”. Seven of the places of 100,000 or more with the highest male-female ratios were in the West (five were in California: Salinas, Santa Ana, Sunnyvale, Costa Mesa, and Oxnard). Other male-rich locations were Tempe, Arizona; Wichita Falls and Austin, Texas.

But just because you are situated in the right location does not mean you will be able to find Mr. or Mrs. Perfect. And if you do, you could end up like poor Forrest Lunsway when his Southern California hottie told him he was gonna have to wait before she would tie the knot. And from the video below, it looks like the wait was worth it. Or was it?
